QUICKSTEER INSTALLATION

 

BLEEDING DIRECTIONS.  IT IS CRITICAL TO REMOVE ALL OF THE AIR FROM YOUR STEERING SYSTEM BY PROPERLY BLEEDING  YOUR STEERING GEAR.  FAILURE TO REMOVE THE AIR FROM THE SYSTEM WILL RESULT IN VERY INCONSISTENT, HARD STEERING.       HERE’S HOW YOU BLEED IT:

 

1. REMOVE DRAG LINK OR PITMAN ARM TO BE ABLE TO STEER THE GEAR ITS FULL RANGE OF MOTION.  TURN STEERING TO FULL LEFT LOCK.

 

2.  FILL GEAR, PUMP, LINES, AND RESERVOIR WITH FLUID, (GME PERFORMER POWER STEERING FLUID RECOMMENDED FOR WARRANTY.)  IT IS CRITICAL TO PRIME YOUR POWER STEERING PUMP BEFORE STARTING ENGINE.  RUNNING A POWER STEERING PUMP DRY WILL DAMAGE PUMP AND GREATLY REDUCE ITS LIFE SPAN.

 

3. START ENGINE AND HOLD STEERING AT LEFT LOCK A FEW SECONDS. THIS WILL QUICKLY REMOVE AIR FROM SYSTEM.  TURN STEERING TO FULL RIGHT LOCK AND BACK TO LEFT LOCK.  REPEAT SEVERAL TIMES.  STEERING FULL RANGE LEFT AND RIGHT REMOVES THE AIR FROM A POWER STEERING SYSTEM.

 

4.  KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR RESERVOIR LEVEL,  ADD AS NECESSARY WHILE BLEEDING.  DON’T RUN RESERVOIR DRY WHILE BLEEDING OR WE’LL HAVE TO START ALL OVER.

 

5.  WHEN ALL  AIR IS PURGED FROM FROM THE SYSTEM.  CHECK RESERVOIR LEVEL.  DO NOT OVER FILL RESERVOIR.  THIS MAY CAUSE A HYDRAULIC LOCK AND  BLOW SEALS OUT OF THE GEAR.  POWER STEERING FLUID EXPANDS WHEN IT GETS HOT.   A GOOD RULE OF THUMB IS TO ALLOW AT LEAST TWO INCHES FOR EXPANSION IN YOUR RESERVOIR.

IMPORTANT  INFORMATION

 

FOR MODIFIEDS:

THE MAXIMUM PITMAN ARM LENGTH ON A QUICKSTEER IS 10 INCHES.  IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME USING A QUICKSTEER, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND YOU START AT 8 OR 9 INCHES AND THEN MOVE TO A 10 INCHES IN A FEW RACES. 

 

FOR SPRINT CARS:

THE MAXIMUM PITMAN ARM LENGTH ON A QUICKSTEER IS 12 INCHES.

IF THIS IS YOUR FIRST TIME USING A QUICKSTEER, WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND STARTING AT 10 OR 11 INCHES AND THEN MOVE TO 12 INCHES IN A FEW RACES.

 

FOR ALL:

 

RETORQUE THE SIDE BELL BOLTS ON THE GEAR TO 150 IN LBS USING A ¼” BALL ALLEN SOCKET EVERY WEEK.

 

CHANGE YOUR GME PERFORMER POWER STEERING FLUID EVERY 12 RACES TO KEEP MAXIMUM PERFORMANCE.

 

GET YOUR STEERING GEAR REBUILT AND CRACK CHECKED EVERY 25-30 RACES OR AFTER EVERY CRASH INVOLVING THE FRONT END STEERING COMPONENTS.
